French term or phrase: personnes prostituées
I've heard the term personnes prostituées several times recently. Does this mean people forced into prostitution i.e. by traffickers or is it just an alternative to un prostitué? Thanks

those/people forced into prostitution
Explanation:
we might normally think of people forced into prostitution it seems to mean either

Perhaps in your specific context it's clearer but I suppose you could always say that people are 'forced' into prostitution, either by others or by circumstances, so those forced into prostitution would work in both cases

disagree  Alexandre Berger: you can either be brought up into prostituion because that's the way you were taught, or consciously choose prostitution, in either way you are not forced

-> I would agree that a few people choose it, but the text words it in such a way as to understand the 'forced' sense. I should have been more careful in my wording :-)

commercial sex workers

Explanation:
It just means people who prostitute themselves.

The term is considered more PC and inclusive than "prostituée".

http://www.mouvementdunid.org/Qui-sont-les-personnes-prostit...
