French term or phrase: J’étais **pognée*** par la dope
I would like to know the meaning of "pognée" (French from Quebec) in this context.

Je continue mon histoire. Un des travailleurs de rue a remplacé mon petit ami puisque j’avais besoin de la coke, il m’en fournirait si je faisais pour lui tant de "clients" par jour, et il me protégerait. J’étais **pognée*** par la dope et en plus j’avais bien besoin d’attention, que quelqu’un s’occupe un peu de moi.

I was a cokehead

Explanation:
Although I agree with the answer suggested above, I thought that I would add another suggestion. "Pognée" literally means "in the clasps of", "seized by", but I think the informal tone here would allow for something along the lines of "I was a cokehead..." (if the person is indeed referring to cocaine).

Bon courage,
Jocelyne

neutral  Richard Benham: This kind of misses the point that the author was in a sense trapped. But if you read a couple of sentences back, you will see that it is indeed coke that she was addicted to.//Maybe, but it's more something you'd say about someone else....

-> Perhaps, but I thought that it was obvious from the context that this person was indeed "trapped" on drugs. I wanted to make a more colloquial suggestion.
