French to English translations [PRO]

La fameuse "construction sociale de la réalité" n'épuise pas la réalité, *****ne suffit pas à en supporter le poids*****. D'une certaine manière, scientiquement incontestable, un objet de représentation existe indépendamment des populations qui se le représentent.

I'm struggling to find a suitable translation for this metaphor. I don't feel that the literal translation is suitable here - unless it has a special significance in social psycvhology terms.

As I see it, the social construction of reality is one theory but the author wants to say that there are other aspects that need to be taken into consideration and therefore this theory is insufficient. Personally I think "is insufficient" or "does not go far enough" would be fine. |
