Social Sciences - Social Science, Sociology, Ethics, etc. / influence of opinion leaders
French term or phrase: entraînement/imitation
"Les études montrent qu’ils [leaders d'opinion] jouent un rôle majeur en crédibilisant les messages des laboratoires et par un effet d’entraînement/imitation sur la prescription des médecins de base."
I really don't know what is meant by entraînement here - I'm pondering conditioning or leadership, or it could just be training

More context: methods used by drug companies to encourage prescription of their drugs, the influence of endorsement by opinion leaders

through a knock-on/imitation effect
Explanation:
I think it means that the doctors are also affected by the studies and have more confidence in prescribing drugs that have been scientifically "proven", reflecting (rather than imitating) the drug companies' own confidence in the outcome of clinical trials.

Great, thanks Susan. I've found confirmaton elsewhere of effet d'entraînement as knock-on effect. SJLD's emulation would be good too.

chain/imitation effect

Explanation:
I think that entraînement in this case means "link" or "chain" because it is talking about a reaction (of a particular group of people), thus "chain reaction or imitation".
