French term or phrase: les ressorts de création des oeuvres
Hi

This is about a project to teach kids (primary to secondary school) how to interpret documentary images (film, video, photos) and how to develop a more critical view of what they see and use specific vocabulary to comment on images.

It says:
"Le projet leur permettra de mieux comprendre les ressorts de création des oeuvres, de se familiariser avec le vocabulaire de l'image..... etc. etc."

At first I thought "ressorts" meant the implications of documentary images. Then I wondered if it didn't mean the stylistic devices used in producing these images. All in all I have no idea!

Thanks for your help!

Explanation:
Copy-Pasted from Robert & Collins:
RESSORT
littéraire « motivation »
■ les ressorts psychologiques de [quelqu'un] : sb's psychological motives
■ les ressorts qui le font agir : what motivates him | what makes him tick ✰
■ les ressorts secrets de l'esprit humain/de l'organisation : the inner ou secret workings of the human mind/the organization
■ les ressorts secrets de cette affaire : the hidden undercurrents of this affair

As I see it, they're talking about what goes on behind the scenes when making films etc.

neutral  Chris Hall: "wellsprings" - this sounds like a religious or therapy-related term. /// I have never heard of "wellsprings". It just doesn't sit well with me, maybe I am the one who is very wrong here. Hopefully, there is someone out there who can back you up here.
