French term or phrase: entre les genres
I'm a bit lost here, I was going to use "between the sexes" but then....among or between genders??? isn't that the same thing all over? Can anyone provide a suggestion or equivalent (UK English) thanks

sex, gender...
Explanation:
You certainly should keep both sex and gender in your translation as the source text has distinguished between the two.

I would turn it around a bit as "genders" doesn't really work in English; put both in the singular and it should sound all right. (Or you could use something like "in terms of sex, gender...")

Gender is a concept that is particularly important when dealing with prostitution, notably due to discrimination/violence towards transsexuals in the field.

in the areas of sex and gender

Explanation:
I think it is very important to distinguish between sex and gender in this translation because, as Jocelyne S states, sexual identity and gender identity have an impact on the way prostitutes are treated and perceived by the authorities and the general public.
