We're discussing the difference between men and women at work and their surroundings and how they are perceived from the outside.

Great! Except a large part of this text is 'Summary for general public'. Methinks General Public is not going to understand very much. They would need to be 'Chief of Staff'.
Those of us who have degrees in sociology will have discovered that one of the main skills to be aquired is to identify each author's contribution to jargon. Those who want to take a further degree in the subject have to demonstrate that they are able to add terms to the vocabulary of sociologese, either by inventing new words, or by ensuring that in the context of their writing words that elsewhere mean something mundane aquire a highly specific and esoteric meaning. This skill leads to other sociologists having to mention your name as a reference in brackets whenever they use words you have laid claim to. The more references you collect, the higher your status, the quicker you get tenure, the more likely journals are to accept papers by you and the better your chances of rising through the academic hierarchy.
You're absolutely right!! Unfortunately the entire document is a series such phrases/sentences/paragraphs. Now I know why this was passed onto me in the guise of a faintly technical document about occupational diseases whereas it's a collection of often non-existant words and/or bizarre phraseology.
as a rule, easy (ie not requiring specialist knowledge) questions receive far more answers than difficult ones. this is just a matter of Asker's personal choice. no real absolutely right/absolutely wrong answers.
The old grey matter is yours. Mine gave up about 20 pages ago. I think that 'world' is possibly the best choice in this case, I'll decide later on when I've completed a bit more of the text.
It would appear that once again I have managed to get the 'old grey matter' working. I'm surprised to see that this is considered to be 'non-pro' when it is obvious that a simple dictionary does not fit the bill.
