French term or phrase: en relance
From a description of a racing bike.

Le cintre oversize apporte plus de rigidité en relance.

Trying to figure out what relance is driving at here. I've read that oversize handlebars provide greater stiffness and reduce arm pump. So perhaps this means that the handlebars stay rigid even when cyclists are really pumping at the pedals... any ideas?
Many thanks in advance,

Explanation:
according to my other half who has just returned from a couple of hours on a bike, it is when the cyclist has slowed down and wants to accelerate again. To "push" the bike forward he will lena forward or stand up on his pedals and his weight will be to a large extent on the handlebars. Whence the interest of the said handlebars having extra stiffness.

you could simply say "when accelerating"or "when building up speed" - in a race it would be "when on the attack"

PS I specifically asked and was told that it is not necessarily standing up - just that when you push harder to pick up speed, your weight goes forward

agree  xxxBourth: Except that rather than pushing down on the bars, one PULLS up so that one can PUSH down on the pedals with more than just bodyweight. I've snapped several bike frames that way, just behind the handlebar post, and have seen bars snap too, through fatigue

-> I never said push on the handlebar. I was talking about pushing the bike forward, pushing on the pedals but...

..when sprinting...

Explanation:
I hve no proper references apart from a cycling guru in my family! He explained about the pulling action (see Bourth) and that the oversized handlebars give extra support when you are sprinting in a race. i wonder if you could say ' more stiffness when sprinting'

'Sprinting' was the term my 'guru' used when he spoke about racing and 'Stiffness' is the term used by cyclists when talking about the nature of these handlebars
