Is this a hoof cleaning tool? If so, is there a more precise term?

hoof pick

Explanation:
If it's one of these (first few pictures) then it's a "hoof pick".

neutral  Catherine Johnstone: a hoof pick is a hook, here no pick, rather some sort of abrasive sponge... so said my prince stallion (my emblem)

I can't give a translation but I don't think the word is used for a "cure-pied".

agree  Catherine Johnstone: sure nothing to do with a cure-pied, it is a second stag to the bestde move after the cure pied has been used

hoof scraper

Explanation:
my hunch seems perhaps right !
see this:

agree  Catherine Johnstone: why not but there is not set word here.. a hoof scraper does not ring a bell with the rider I am and my white stallion emblem does not know either

If I was to give a nickname to one of the tools though, I guess I would call "gratounette" my curry comb...Sorry for answering twice...

hoof cleaner (or hoof rubber cleaner)

Explanation:
a hoof pick is a different thing to me ( a metal hook to clean away the inside of the hoof) here I think that cleaner could do... that is any much softer stuff that abrases dirt left and no more... Have three horses that I dearly look after twice a day... I really do believe it is an additional "cleaner"... By the way never heard the word gratounettte in France but who knows... with cleaner, I would think you are home and dry!!! :) from my stallion Prince and his two pals

or abrasive sponge!!! ooops this is getting great fun especially for the owner and rider of 3 horses!!! Am eager to see the end result of all this, will continue trying to get ideas... as they say in French "j'en parlerai à mon cheval"... Pour une fois qu'on se marre bien sans pour autant ne pas être inutiles!!! Great fun!
