This is a press release for a local handball team. I've been trying to find the definition for équipe première with little luck. In the US we have major league baseball, professional basketball, etc. Can anyone help with this term in the sense of handball (mostly for a non-English speaking public).
Thanks, Mary |

| | senior first team | Explanation: The "équipe première" is the club's "first team" and, in this case, it's specifically referring to the senior team.

The term "équipe première" has nothing to do with the club being professional or amateur. Every club will have an "équipe première" and probably also at least one "équipe réserve", regardless of their level.
What the quoted paragraph is saying is that the club is aware that it needs to concentrate on training young players as they will one day fill the places in the senior first team left vacant by players who have either retired from the game, moved on to other clubs, or moved away from the area for (usually) professional reasons. |
