Definately keep the BPJEPS. How surreal to find this thread here, as I'm actually a participant in this online discussion (several members of my family being directly affected)! In a nutshell the French equestrian authorities don't currently recognise the UK teaching qualifications as being of the same standard and there is a campaign to bring the two in line. Many expats in France are being unfairly penalised and have found their UK qualifications to be worthless over here and are unable to work in the field in which they have trained.

There appears to be a dispute between the European Commission and the French Ministere des Sports over the equivalence of BPJEPS. The Commission say that the BPJEPS is equivalent to the BHSAI (BHS Assistant Instructor), per

"Update from Mme. Guidicelli at the Commission:
"... En particulier, nous estimons que l'équivalent du BHSAI, en France, est le BPJEPS et non le BAPAAT. ..." Nous demandons également aux autorités françaises de veiller à ce dans leur instruction interne ainsi que dans le répertoire national des certifications professionnellles il ne soit plus indiqué que le BHSAI est l'équivalent en France du BAPAAT. ... le BHSAI confère à son titulaire le droit d'enseigner de façon autonome l'équitation contre rémunération dans diverses structures équestres. Or, en France, c'est le BPJEPS et non le BAPAAT qui confère le même droit. Le titulaire du BAPAAT n'est en effet pas autorisé à enseigner de façon autonome dans la mesure où le BAPAAT est seulement un brevet d'assistant animateur."
