French term or phrase: cartes
This is from a mini-biography of a golfer. The term "cartes" occurs twice in the following passage. Any ideas how it is being used here?
My initial reaction is that the first use ("Après une seconde place pour ses cartes ") may mean "after scoring second place", i.e. carte as in scorecard... The second ("décroche ses cartes " may mean she "won a place"... though I'm far from certain in either instance. Any thoughts greatly appreciated...

Explanation:
The term you're looking for Philip is "earn her card", ie win a place on the tour.

In 2003 she earned her Ladies European Tour card after finishing second (in the French Tour I presume) and she then won her LPGA card in 2008.

To keep their card players need to finish in the top 100 or so - any lower and you lose it and get demoted to the tour below. It's a bit like promotion and relegation in football for example.

Many thanks.
Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks James - that certainly seems convincing - I hadn't realised it was so literal.
