French term or phrase: godilles
Hello,
This is a skiing term and comes from a website for a company providing sports holidays for young adults. I'm sure it's very common, but am not familiar with the field and not sure how it should be translated:
. Vous enchaînez godilles et grandes courbes quel que soit le terrain.
thanks,
Anne

wedels

Explanation:
Personally I'm only familiar with the French term for this series of tight curves (from the waist down) as you ski in a straight line, top half of the body immobile. But it appears that outre Atlantique at least they use a derivative of the German term wedeln.

wedeln n.
from wedeln "to wag": a skiing technique first developed in Austria in the 1950s that consists of high-speed turns made in succession with both skis parallel while not noticeably setting the ski edges on a slope. Using this technique one's rear end wags like a dog's tail [< German wedeln "to wag (the tail), fan" < Middle High German wadelen, wedelen < wadel, wedel "fan, tuft of hair" < Old High German wadal, wedil].
• "Then, between bouts with tomato sauce, cheese and toppings, he was yodeling and wedeln-ing his way down the slopes." Jay Lloyd, "Getting job at ski area can help you get more time on the slopes", Lancaster (PA) Sunday News, Dec. 19, 1999.
