neutral  kashew: Maybe it should be a disagree but it's all there in your great references! Baiting seems OK to me, but I only ever fished with bent pins and bread!

neutral  Martin Cassell: as kashew says, splendid bilingual references, but they do seem to point to eschage=bait(ing) (your first example is not a direct translation) // standard bilingual dictionaries (I checked Harraps and R&C) also have escher (vt)=bait

  -> yes, I initially hesitated with bait/baiting as it's also the translation for amorçage ...
