French to English translations [PRO]
Sports / Fitness / Recreation / Hang-gliding etc | | French term or phrase: vol libre | | In an information pack about a weekend presenting a range of aerial sports (“vol libre”) at a French resort. They seem to be using “vol libre” as a general term to cover several aerial sports – “deltaplane”, paragliding, kitesurfing etc. I get the impression that “hang-gliding” (which is the general translation offered for “vol libre”) in English is one specific sport, so I need a more general term to cover the whole range. I found “vol libre” as “free flight” in Kudoz, but I don’t think that quite fits in this text, and “aerial sports” covers gliding and flying too, which are not part of the range. Any ideas, please? The problem occurs throughout the document, but one place is in the contents summery at the beginning: “Dossier de Presse. a Parapente; b Deltaplane, c Montgolfière, d Speed riding, e Kitesurf, f Snowkite, g Les enterprises du vol libre, h Les événements phares”.
