French to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Sports / Fitness / Recreation / Sports facility
French term or phrase:Plateau d’évolution
This is a tender document. The expression appears in a list of facilities that need to be provided in a new indoor stadium to be built. There is one 32m x 19m "Plateau d’évolution" in the main hall/area. The only context is: The tender bidders must "offrir deux possibilités de traversée du **plateau d’évolution** pour le cheminement des camions nécessaires à une exploitation en mode événementielle." Otherwise the expression only appears in lists.
Is this the "playing court" ?
If so, is there any expression you can think of to combine the idea of 'sports court' and 'concert floor' as the intention is to host sports and cutural/musical events on a 50:50 basis during the year?
Many thanks as always :-)
Many thanks Catharine !(apologies for misspelling your name in discussion). Can't give you full 4 pts though because you didn't read my last paragraph which says it's not just for sports but also for concerts, etc... 3 KudoZ points were awarded for this answer
Thank you ! I'm overwhelmed by extraordinary response, maybe because it was an arcane question about our daily/community life. I'm bemused though that many people didn't read the last paragraph of my question, which would've much reduced the field. First clue was by Nikki S-D who echoed my view that evolution is used as a vague expression of movement. Person who nailed it though was Catherine C-S, with David Sirett providing final necessary understanding: It's a "multi-purpose court" for the following reasons: 1) It's not the hall, it's the playing court in the hall (cf my info "32x19m"). By trawling the web I learned 32x19 is the dimensions of an intl basketball ct + H&S skirt.
"Evolution" can be used in French to describe movement and I think that is how it is being used here. The "plateau d'évolution" is probably part of the hall area, a sort of concourse for vehicles sot that they can transport gear to a given place when an event is being held.

Concourse is also used in similar contexts to describe open areas where people can circulate freely.

Sorry barking up the wrong tree on this one. Concourse is used for areas where movement occurs, for vehicles or for areas where crowds of people circulate. I had "traversée du plateau d'évolution" in mind rather than the "plateau" itself. A little distracted here, sorry!
Main arena woudl be my choice here.

Explanation: "The sports and activity centre is a multifunctional structure. The new building includes a large multipurpose hall with enough space to accommodate two handball courts with accompanying mobile spectator stands, as well as a V.I.P. lounge. The centre also houses two smaller halls. This means the complex can accommodate major sporting events, concerts and other cultural events, but also be adapted for school sporting events and local sports initiatives requiring smaller, more intimate settings. "Specialist facilities include a Judo Hall, Combat Hall, Netball and Badminton Halls, Multipurpose Hall and a 200m Indoor Athletics Arena. Gym facilities are available at the members-only Valley Fitness Suite and the sports halls are used for training and education and are available to hire for activities, events and special occasions " http://www.sivltd.com/venues/eiss

Sorry, this is inside a stadium (didn't read that LOL). So it can't be a "park" (had doubts about saying "park" here to begin with, but "park" has a wide range of meanings).
It could be "recreation floor".
