Par ailleurs, l'architecture générale du système restant globalement plus compréhensibles, de nombreux effets de bord (principaux vecteurs de bugs) sont évités.

The text is about refactoring software systems. I understand what effet de bord means, I'm just not familiar with the usual English term for it. Thank you for your help.
