French term or phrase: pièces de conditionnement
Appears in a letter from Groupe Ford France (an "Attestation de Conformité" re a 1996 Ford pickup truck (F150) being imported into France from Canada). It sounds to me like non-mechanical parts, but I haven't succeeded in finding the proper term for this. Thanks.

market-specific parts
Explanation:
conditionnement -market preparation, so pièces de conditionnement would be parts for the specific market. I wouldn't call them accessories or loose shipped items, since those parts are essential to the car

All 5 answers were extremely helpful. arobb's explanation helped me understand the context and what is being referred to. However, I'm dealing with a personal vehicle being imported into France from Canada by the owner and the process by which this vehicle can be made to conform to French standards so that it can be registered, so the Canadian official terminology would'nt apply here. Golub's explanation was also very helpful as it is based on experience. "Market-specific parts" seems to me to sum it all up nicely, and I don't need an official term. Thanks to all! Pattie

loose shipped items OR marginal fabrication parts OR items

Explanation:

I would add a translator's note explaining what follows (excerpts from Federal Court of Canada decision)

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
Ford Canada was importing cars and light trucks from its American parent to Ford dealerships in Canada. A term of the sale agreement between Ford Canada and each of the dealers was that the vehicles would be delivered to the dealers with preparation and conditioning work outstanding. This work was to be performed by each dealer after delivery but prior to resale. It included an under the hood check, body check, chassis check, road test, appearance check and installation of any loose shipped items such as fog lights, antennas, CB mikes, cigarette lighters, door mats, hub caps and wheel covers, licence plate frames, luggage racks, and rear step bumpers.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Preparation and conditioning of vehicles at dealership not manufacturing for purposes of Act, not performed by dealer on behalf of respondent "

accessories

Explanation:
It would be more technical to translate the phrase as" accessories". All the items mentioned come under accessories which go along way to improve the value of the car.

Explanation:
