one type of patte à vis has a wood screw thread on one end, for fastening to your building etc., and a 'metal' thread at the other end (like and ordinary bolt) that fits into the threaded hole on a specific item to be fastened. Such things are used to fix plumbing accessories, pipe clamps, electrical junction boxes etc....
