groupe (electrogène) would normally mean an (electricity) generating set, or in more colloquial, less formal jargon, 'genset'

Given the size of boat being discussed, I feel that the idea of generator may be more appropriate than battery bank.

12kVA is huge for a battery bank, but quite average for a (possibly diesel?) generator.
