The confusion between soldering and welding is often made because in French both are translated with "soudure", MIG and arc welding are for example "soudure à l'arc" et "soudure MIG"; for electronics there is no doubt, this is soldering. solder spot Explanation: "Soudure" applies to both welding and soldering; however, there is a difference between the two in English, where welding is the joining of like metals by melting (800ºC+) and soldering is the joining of two unlike metals using another metal of inferior melting point (aluminum is a favourite). When working on plastics, electronic components and cards, I think it's pretty evident that you cannot subject the delicate kind of material used to 800ºC! Experience in welding & electrowelding. |
