French term or phrase: le faite des murs
Could somebody tell me if the phrase "le faite des murs" translate as the top of the walls" in the following sentence:

"Les lichens se trouvent sur les parois faiblement ensoleillés et humides, où elles se développent au pied ou sur le faite des murs et dans les anfractuosités"

I have translated the sentence as follows but I am a bit worried as to whether the sentence makes sense as surely the tops of walls would receive plenty of light - my text deals with Roman walls and it is unclear whether these walls are boundary walls or house walls that tend to longer have intact roofs.

"Lichen grow more readily on walls that also receive little light, such as at the foot or on top of walls and in crevices".

Explanation:
You could also use ridge, but your translation seems right. I think the reason why the lichen like to grow there is that they can encrust themselves in the crevisses, where also the moisture gathers

top of the walls

Explanation:
You have translated correctly. I t says " au pied ou sur le faite de murs ". That is an obvious referenece to the contrast.
