10. Maîtrise de la production et de la préparation du service

10.1 Maîtrise des équipements de contrôle, de mesure et d’essai

Les différents appareils de mesure en laboratoire et en fabrication sont maintenus en état de bon fonctionnement. Une liste comportant la désignation des appareils faisant l’objet d’un étalonnage et/ou d’une vérification, leurs caractéristiques, leur repérage et leur localisation, est tenue à jour par la Maintenance et le Laboratoire, chacun pour ce qui les concerne.
Les principaux appareils sont référencés et suivis par une fiche de vie et/ou d’interventions, leurs étalonnages ou vérifications sont effectués suivant des plannings définis préétablis.
Des procédures de maîtrise spécifiques décrivent les modes opératoires pour vérifier et/ou étalonner chaque appareil ou classe d’appareil.
Les fiches de vie et/ou d’interventions mentionnent toutes les interventions pratiquées, que ce soit au titre de vérifications, d’étalonnages, ou de contrats de maintenance.

Attention ! Il me semble que le premier terme (§ 10) et le deuxième (§ 10.1) ONT DEUX SENS DIFFERENTS.
D'ailleurs, l'emploi de maîtrise dans le second cas me semble illogique car le titre du paragraphe et son contenu sont contradictoires : "maîtrise" est normalement traduit par "control" en anglais (au sens de gestion, régulation, commande, réglage... à savoir une action sur l'appareil EN AMONT) mais le texte parle de maintenance, d'étalonnage (calibration) et de vérification (inspection) (à savoir des actions EN AVAL).

Je traduirais donc "maîtrise" par "CONTROL" DANS LE PREMIER CAS et par un terme général qui regroupe maintenance, vérification et étalonnage, par exemple "MANAGEMENT" DANS LE DEUXIEME CAS.

Explanation:
I agree with Robintech's point here, except that this is clearly a paragraph and sub-paragraph heading, and I see no contradiction between them; clearly, testing and checking instrumentation needs to be managed within the context (presumably) of 'producing' the main product.
But I really do feel that 'management' works better in this sort of context; where I used to work, in just such a department, we used to talk about 'testing management' and 'managing test equipment'

Explanation:
Often "inspection" is used but I have always used "control management" because inspection does not go far enough. Steps have to be taken as well to initiate correction of failures and not just to document failures. I have translated over 50 documents in French from car components manufactures, and no-one has complained about my transation as "control management".
