Savart plate / Explanation: Could you by any chance be working off a faxed or poorly xeroxed text? What makes me suspect that is that the item, *lame de Savart* does exist, but I can't find any *lame de savon*. Here is what LGDT has: Domaine(s) physique élément optique Savart plate (a) lame de Savart n f (a) -------- Sorry, can't help you on the rest. Le grand dictionnaire terminologique |

Soap-film; pipette tip; (platinum bar?) Explanation: Hello Thierry, I was just revisiting this questions (because ProZ has asked everyone to enter terms into a glossary, and I'd like to find a term to enter here!), and found the following: lame de savon Les lames minces prennent spontanément une forme telle que leur surface soit minimale. I used the info above to get enough key words to find the following. Wish I'd known enough about how to get hold of keywords back when you needed this answer! Fluid Mechanics Demonstrations ... Si des précautions sont prises afin d'éviter la dispersion sur une surface déjà ensemencée, la densité des bactéries déposées sur le milieu est exponentiellement décroissante avec la surface de dispersion. It looks like your "cylindre de platin" must really be "de platine": that wonderful platinum bar–the standard kilogram housed in Paris, that I learned about back in my école communale primaire (presumably on the day that every school child in France was learning about it). (The only dictionary usage I can find for "platin" is the following (from LGDT): océanographie fond et littoral platin n m (a) Partie basse d'une plage qui découvre à marée basse. (a) Note(s): Par extension ((de sens)) haut-fond sableux. (a) [1977]) (4) I trust you found that "paroi" is simply "wall" (as in, for instance, *cell wall*) Best regards, Yolanda Broad [email protected] Alta Vista & Google Reference: http://web.afssa.fr/Dico/glossbact.html |
