clamping Explanation: It seems to me that we are talking about 'clamping' a steel sealing ring between the two flanges; I'd probably re-cast the sentence to make it a verbal rather than nominal expression: '...a steel ring-washer [toroidal washer, O-ring] clamped between the 2 flanges" Were it a compressible rubber washer, we could say 'pinching', but to me this doesn't quite seem to work if it's made of steel! |
