I don't quite understand the sentence in which "brassé" appears. There appears to be something missing or at least something wrong with the construction. Thanks in advance. |

| | patched (onto / via) | Explanation: As Bourth says, 'connected' may be more appropriate here, but the underlying meaning of 'brasser' is 'to patch' — in an electronics sense, this means to connect something (comparatively) temporarily, in such a way that it might be re-configured differently later.
There is nothing really wrong with your sentence, except that it is arguably missing some punctuation:
It is clear from the distinction they are making between 'installé' and 'brassé' that they are indeed implying some kind of less than permanent connection; since this is a LAN, they are probably saying that it is simply plugged into the LAN, and hence, could be easily unplugged in order to move it and plug it in again at a different point on the LAN. This would be as distinct from the other hardware, which is actually installed and hard-wired at a certain point.

22 mins confidence: connected
Explanation: From my notes :
Brassage, local de Patch bay/room; cross connect switch bay (a "brasseur" is a cross connect switch. The difference between that and a patch panel is that with the patch panel the different inputs and outputs are manually connected via patch cords whereas with a brasseur, the "brassage" or cross connection is done electronically ).
Check the translations of "brassage" in the glossaries etc. It has come up quite a lot.
Whether "patched to" is said I cannot say.

Well, "patched to" is said, but only in relation to remedial patches on hardware, etc.
Maybe "connected via a switch bay" or some such.

Patch panel
A panel of network ports contained together, usually within a telecommunications closet, that connects incoming and outgoing lines of a LAN or other communication, electronic or electrical system. In a LAN, the patch panel connects the network's computers to each other and to the outside lines that enable the LAN to connect to the Internet or another WAN. Connections are made with patch cords. The patch panel allows circuits to be arranged and rearranged by plugging and unplugging the patch cords
http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/P/patch_panel.html
A patch panel is a mounted hardware unit containing an assembly of port locations in a communications or other electronic or electrical system. In a network, a patch panel serves as a sort of static switchboard, using cables to interconnect computers within the area of a local area network (LAN) and to the outside for connection to the Internet or other wide area network (WAN). A patch panel uses a sort of jumper cable called a patch cord to create each interconnection.
