the boxes of the different ASDL service providers

Explanation:
explanation:

the "box" is literally the gadget you get when you subscribe to any one of the main providers in France (Free, Alice, Orange, Darty, and lots more).. With the deals they offer, you can scrap your landline and use their services as part of a fixed price - I'm sure you have the same thing where you live

Examples:

Darty deploys its offer on cable and on DSL technologies. The ADSL offer is based on Completel France operator's network. ..... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darty#DartyBox

Notes to answerer
Asker: It makes perfect sense now that you've explained it - a decoder of sorts? Do you think I could get away with 'box' as a translation?

Asker: Many thanks for your help. I would have used your answer were it not for SJLD's answer which you agreed with.

agree  ptegan: Just checked on the Orange UK site and they also use the name livebox as they do in France though the generic term 'ADSL router' would probably be best.
