French to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Telecom(munications) / Antenna installation | | French term or phrase: extrémité munie | from a CCTP for installation of a 3G network:
Les liaisons devront a minima atteindre les objectifs de qualité et de disponibilité pour les liaisons hertziennes décrites dans les recommandations UIT-R F.1668 et F.1703 pour un réseau à courte distance entre commutateurs du réseau national. Pour les liaisons maritimes, les soumissionnaires pourront proposer des bonds avec diversité d'espace sur **l'extrémité munie** d'un pylône [company name].
any ideas? I'm not sure what this means in practical terms
thanks! |

| | English translation:at the end OR limit / using OR with a XXX mast OR pylon | Explanation: There are a lot of ifs and buts here, as it really does all depend on the specific context, and the actual details of the system involved.
My understanding (based on informed guesswork) is that the 'end of the line' as far as the terrestrial network is concerned (i.e. where it reaches the coast) is to be fitted with a space-diversity system (to improve the reliability of the over-water 'hops') that will use a mast (usually, for radio, but sometimes pylon) — actually, i'd have thought several masts for the diversity system, but withou more system details, it's hard to guess.

In typical FR syntac, it probably simply means 'one mast' positioned at each extremity of the network — without knowing more about the network, I would assume it probably ends at the coast in several different places (hence providing the required 'diversity' facility |

Asker: thanks Tony - the contract is to install about 50 masts, so I think the contractor would have plenty at their disposal, but it's odd that it just seems to be the one
