neutral  cc in nyc: OK, but if you want the US public to understand this, leave out "mains"

  -> OK! Thanks!

agree  Tony M: Yes, actually quite important to specify 'mains', since these days cigar-lighter and USB chargers are also common. The US must surely have some kind of term to differentiate the one from the other?

agree  Anton Konashenok: Or "wall charger" for US English

neutral  cc in nyc: I take my charger with me when I travel // Wow, that looks like my Motorola travel charger–so-called because the prongs fold into the housing. I have the previous version too (also from Motorola), a little heavier and without folding prongs

  -> Home charger can be taken anywhere http://www.thinkatrixaccessories.com/motorola-atrix-rapid-ho... This lightweight charger can easily be taken anywhere because it can fit into any bag, purse or suitcase. So we still call it home charger

OK... "AC charger" for the sticklers – and with a nod to Tony. ;-)

neutral  Tony M: Yes, but it is important to differentiate the specific type of charger, since several types exist... / Right yes, for AE, 'wall charger' or 'AC charger' sounds good! And yes, that is indeed the assumption from 'mains'
2 hrs
  -> Lacking other indications, one assumes (at least I do) that it's an AC charger – sometimes called a wall charger
