It is obviously a patent document, so I would translate the French and then leave the '("taper")' as it is. Alternatively, you could do a search on the European Patent Bureau site to see how other patents render the phrase.

or ("fibre tapering") - although they've used a noun "taper" (for "tapered fibre")
I would include it, as it is the name of the process they have just referred to.
