Thanks for all your research. I still think these gloves are referred to as gauntlet gloves, and in this particular case I do not think they are made of leather. I have translated another document about white lambskin gauntlet gloves! However, nowhere in the document does it mention that these gloves are made of cotton so I am reluctant to go for that. They are made of some soft material as the components listed include "tricot" which I am translating as knit fabric. I do know that they are designed for "gardes d´honneurs et factionnaires" - guards of honour and sentries.... So perhaps I could call them dress gloves.

Don't know how I picked that one up, but crispin doesn't seem to be soft leather after all, just gauntlet. So "en fil de crispin" is a bit of a mystery.

so ok crispin means gauntlet yes we know this. But I have seen the white dress gloves worn by the military written two ways 'gants en fil à crispin' and 'gants en fil de crispin' in both cases they seem to be talking about white cotton dress gloves with large cuff (the french military seem to have longer cuffs on their gloves than the UK or US which are just open cuffs)

Now for what B D Finch has said it's difficult to tell if it's that because I have seen many references to gloves 'gants croute de cuir façon crispin' now is that referring to the type of leather or that they are leather gloves with a large protective cuff? very difficult to tell. I'd go with "White cotton dress gloves" or "White cotton gloves with cuff"
