French term or phrase: empiècement vertical (THIS CONTEXT)
I am translating a text about the construction of the iconic Chanel tweed jacket.
I see "empiècement" usually means "yoke" in dressmaking. However, not sure there is such a thing as a "vertical yoke" that would be fitted to the sides of a jacket? No Ghits....which leads me to suspect this should be translated differently.

Here's the whole sentence:

Sur les côtés, et dans le but d’apporter encore plus de souplesse, un empiècement vertical fait la jonction entre devant et dos.

In this context, I would probably favor side inset or side inset panel.
