French term or phrase: Centre de vie
I know that there is a glossary entry for this term - which I have just looked at - but in my context the term would appear not to be meant in the medical sense (although the complex does contain a clinic, which is not mentioned here, but elsewhere). This is taken from the description of what appears to be a sort of 'holiday village' or 'complex'' in Morocco:

Au centre de la Résidence, se trouve le centre de vie où l’on pourra trouver les services nécessaires à la vie sociale des résidents : bureau de Direction, Secrétariat et Réception des arrivants, commerces de première nécessité, journaux, poste, restaurants, bar, bibliothèque, hammam Fiteness, piscine chauffée.

I am wondering whether I should turn it around a bit and say something like: in the middle of the complex is the 'holiday village centre' .... I think it would be meaningless in this context to call it a 'life centre', n'est-ce pas? Or does someone have a better suggestion?

Overwhelming agreement here! In the end I think I used 'village centre' (with inverted commas to show that it is a sort of 'created' village within the complex (I have seen these before)... but yes, this is exactly what it was. Thanks to all contributors.
