neutral  Tony M: My concern is that there is some kind of suggestive connotation about 'tip' — and in any case, it can also mean a rubbish tip! / Alison, what's so specifically 'gay' about 'tip'?! :-))
1 hr

neutral  Allison Wright: Agree with Tony, given the high percentage of gay people living there, and also on rubbish tip. Parts of Cape Town definitely qualify for that description.

I'm not sure Capetown is the farthest reach - probably Ushuaia, right? - but anyway.

"Land's end" might be another alternative to "end of the world"...

Where the world comes to a beautiful finish!

Explanation:
I really think you'll need to get completely away from the original pun — which incidentally, I think is 3-way, isn't it? With 'fin' in the sense of 'goal, objective' as well.

Note that 'finish' is a term used in wine-tasting, and hence highly appropriate for S.A. with its renowned wine industry.

The world's loveliest cape

Explanation:
Since this type of "end" of the world is a cape, hence the name of the city, I think you could use that. Where I live Cape Cornwall claims to be the only cape in England (which I dispute), and it is a stone's throw from Lands End. A cape is a very specific kind of land's end.

neutral  Tony M: My concern here is that one doesn't very often use the word 'cape' on its own like this in the geographical meaning, and this might be read first as the type of garment... I think I shall don my 'cape of good hope' and sally forth... (I know her well!)
26 mins
-> That's because you don't live near a hotly disputed cape! People talk about capes over breakfast here, and they certainly aren't talking about cloaks. Maybe I'm being parochial, but I certainly think of cape first in its geographical sense. "Cloak Town"!

Reach the egde of the earth

Explanation:

Just drawing the parallel between Land's End in Cornwall, Finisterre in Brittany, and Fisterra in Galicia.

Are there any non-Celtic "land's ends" in the world?

Strictly speaking, though, any "land's end" in South Africa would be near the municipality of Agulhas which is some distance from Cape Town.

neutral  Tony M: To make it not sound like 'the end of the world', I'd be inclined to go for 'in' the world, which keeps the idea of the play on words / I know that as "go to the ends of the earth for someone" (and cf. other answers here)
1 hr
-> Original phrase reminds me of "to go to the end of the world for someone, something" (which won't work with "in") // Oh, right :o – but that works brilliantly

Changed the syntax and added ''here''. Sounds a lot like the others (reminds me of Tony's), but is different still.
