French term or phrase: Lave main à CNM
This is from a HACCP document on restaurant health and safety:

One of the "control points" listed is:

Lave main à CNM

I can find one or two references to the phrase online, but without any real context. Does anyone recognise this abbreviation? Thanks in advice for any ideas...

hands-free handwash unit
Explanation:
Well, apparently my hunch was right, judging by the small handful of Google hits I found, e.g.:

DCE LOT 15 Equipement Cuisine - Rév.5

marches-amiens.amiens-metropole.com/.../DCE___Lot_15_Equipem...

Avec les lavabos à commande non manuelle seront fournis distributeurs de serviettes à usage unique, distributeurs de .... Lave mains CNM. 40 x 35 x 50.

Although I wasn't very sure about the actual EN term, it seems that my suggested term certainly is used (though it may not, of course, be the commonest term), e.g.:

Advance Tabco - Hand Wash Sink - Hands Free - Electronic Eye ...
www.zesco.com/Advance-Tabco-Hand-... - États-Unis

Advance Tabco - Wall Mount Hands Free Sink - Electronic Eye - Lever Operated Drain and Built-in Overflow - 17.25" W x 15.25" D x 13" Tall - 7-PS-51 Features ...

As so often these days, I'm afraid that first Google link doesn't work, here it is in full:

Thanks for the kind remarks! No real credit to me, though — it just helps when you work in the field ;-)

-> Thanks Mark! I can see the possibilities for that going wrong now... ;-))

agree  Leslie Marcus

  -> Thanks, Leslie!

agree  B D Finch: Though the usual term in UK English is "wash hand basin", frequently abbreviated to "whb". A sink has a flat bottom (to stop your bowl and crockery slipping about) and a basin has a sloped bottom.
9 mins
-> Thanks, Barbara! Good point, though many models do actually have a flat bottom anyway; I think the term 'handwash' (alone, or + 'unit' or 'station') is a specific term, often used with neither basin or sink; as you say, I think the distinction is AE / BE

agree  Nikki Scott-Despaigne: automatic hand-wash unit.... hands-free sounds odd with hand wash, as if you were washing hands you don't have. Non-manual is yucky is English and there are 2M hits for automatic hand-wash unit/system.//Yup, like the foot-operated ones. Hmmm
19 mins
-> Thanks, Nikki! I know that 'hands-free' sounds odd, but it is an accepted technical term: the trouble is, there are several types that are hands-free but are not 'automatic', so the latter are only a subset of all CNM

agree  Tony M: Yes, but it's important to bear in mind that 'CNM' is an overall class of handwash, whereas (as explained above), 'automatic' types are only one subset of these. Hence 'CNM' is the more generic term.
21 mins
-> Not quite sure I follow your argumentation (to me "automatic" seems fairly generic), but whatever, thanks.
