Hi Tony, thanks for your response. You are right, I missed something out. The data is either data from the Advanced Passenger information system, Forms of identification or e-tickets which is in a paragraph after data (FOID, APIS, ETKT). Surrounding context however refers to other functions. My reading is however, that it must be possible from any computer in the system to read this data from/using..... I am also wondering whether it could be a keyboard with a swipe facility but have never seen one for passports and e-tickets (which are usually printed on paper form). The other possibility is the kind of swipe pad that you pass things under or over like in supermarkets where you have self-service counters where you swipe the products over a screen. ...unless it's one of those keboards you sometimes get at checkouts, in banks, etc. that has a swipe-card reader built in to a normal keyboard?

I'm sure you must have a bit more context than that, Helen! What sort of equipment is being dealt with here? How technical are the details generally? I can think of at least one other meaning of 'à piste'... and I don't think 'clavier' would be pad...
