French to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Transport / Transportation / Shipping / Contenants (trucking) | | French term or phrase: contenant plaqué / non-plaqué | Hello,
Does anyone know the English for the above term? The client has explained the meaning to me: they are transport containers of various types, shapes, etc. that either have a permanent barcode or other tracking system integrated into or stuck on to them (contenant plaqué) to simplify tracking, returns, etc. or, in the case of "contenants non-plaqués", this system is absent.
Here's a sentence for context:
Sur le flux « aller » ou généralement un colis est associé à un contenant (plaqué ou non), les constats effectués sur les colis doivent se propager aux contenants.
Thanks in advance et bon dimanche !

There is an International Standards Organization standard for freight container AEI TAGS, and the standard is technically compatible with the AAR railroad standard. However, the ISO standard is voluntary and little used. To the author's knowledge, only two container carriers have chosen to adopt the technology for all of their containers, and one of the two has retrenched. Other carriers have judged the payback for the system to be insufficient.
American Presidents Line was the leader in adopting the ISO standard TAGS but, midway through its implementation, APL entered its global alliance with non-US flag carriers who did not agree to invest in RFID. Since a mixed fleet of TAGGED AND UNTAGGED CONTAINERS would be unwieldy, APL is now in the process of TAGGING its container chassis fleet rather than its containers

This capability to operate at multiple frequencies is extremely important when TAGS are mounted on containers that travel internationally. Each country to which a container can travel has its own limitations on allowable radio frequencies and power levels. There is not one single radio frequency that can be used in every country. Therefore, a single TAG MOUNTED ON A CONTAINER must have the capability to be read at different frequencies and power levels. Amtech's tags have this unique ability, and this system is the only system that meets the current ISO 10374 standard for container identification.
