French to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Transport / Transportation / Shipping / Automotive documentation
French term or phrase: carte orange
I believe this is a piece of vehicle (in this case car) documentation similar to the log book but over which the log book takes precedence. (In this case, log books are required to be presented on arrival at the garage and 'cartes oranges' will not be accepted). 'Season ticket' and other such translations doesn't seem to suit this context to me. Any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance,

Victoria

The Carte orange (Orange Card) is a pass for the public transportation system in Paris and the surrounding Île-de-France region. A holder of the pass is entitled to unlimited use of the public transit system within a given period of time, with Cartes oranges being available for durations of one week or one month.

The Île-de-France region is divided in eight concentric zones, the first one being the city of Paris. The most basic pass for Paris and its close banlieue covers zones 1–2, costing €16,30 for a one-week pass and €53,50 for a one-month pass.

Notes to answerer
Asker: That's what I thought, but how does that relate to vehicle ownership? That's what confused me. Thanks for your suggestion!

neutral  Michael GREEN: Not "underground ..". As you explain, it also applies for suburban trains and buses (and it always has been so used!)

-> Well, that's the original meaning, and now it can be used on suburban transport. Thanks.

neutral  Catherine Johnstone: it often includes buses in F... so underground???

  -> OK, thanks.

disagree  askell: underground does'nt fit following Michael's doubt

-> I'd say metro then. Thanks.

disagree  writeaway: not at all. it's not what it generally refers to in Paris

-> My French friends living in Paris must have got it wrong when they referred to it as such. Thanks.

vehicle logbook / (certified) proof of (vehicle) ownership

Explanation:
Came up with this on a Google search:

"Certified proof of address in France ( gas or electricity bill, or university Hostel's letter, or if you are staying in someone's house then a letter from that person+ proof of his electricity or gas bill in original +identity card or resident's card of that person)."

'Vehicle logbook' (or 'certified proof of ownership') therefore would fit the bill, no?

disagree  François Crompton-Roberts: You are thinking of "carte grise". "Carte orange" is more like a public transport season ticket.
