This is from the original document which has been translated into Italian and I am now translating from Italian into English. I understand it's talking about railway points, but it's the "d'ensablement" bit I don't understand. Replies in English, please. Thanks

I wondered if this might be anything to do with a siding used for loading waggons with sand, but I somehow don't think that can be right.

How about this instead? Is there anything in your wider context to suggest it is about safety and stopping runaway trains?
