French to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Transport / Transportation / Shipping / street furniture
French term or phrase: assis debout
This is the French term for those high seats you find in bus shelters (i.e. the ones that you "lean against" rather than "sitting on"). However, I don't have a clue what the correct "technical" English term is for these (UK English).

Any ideas appreciated!

Thanks

perch seating
Explanation:
For some reason my previous answer appears to have disappeared, so reproducing here:

'Perch seating' is what immediately came to mind. It works well in conveying the height of the seat.

Many web hits for 'perch seating' as well, e.g. http://www.euroshel.com/Bus_Shelters.asp

"We have been making and installing bus shelters for over 20 years. A range of co-ordinated accessories are available including Stainless steel perch seating, Timetables, Bus stop Poles and Solar Lighting."

Also see references/discussion of the concept in this document:

Asker: I think you've cracked it Scott, thanks. I'll just wait to see what else comes in, but I'm pretty sure this is what I'm looking for...

Explanation:
As you can see from the confidence level, I am not too sure! The phrase 'ergonomic support' seems to cover a multitude of sins, if you don't find an exact term!

stand-up seats

Explanation:
This has come up before.

Don't agree with this one (pictures of a saddle seat show something like a horse saddle on a pole):

And the links here don't work any more :
http://www.proz.com/kudoz/french_to_english/tech_engineering...

Picture of a free-standing one, but I know/imagine the ones you're talking about are more "benches" than individual seats and are attached to walls.
