agree  Tony M: Though it may not necessarily be a plug-in one, simply one that can be removed as a rack module (as distinct from bringing along and plugging in your laptop, for example)

  -> very true Tony, in my gloss. it also gives for "tiroir" "rack-mounted unit" and "slide-in unit", I feel "plug-in" would commit the translator to less of an error...

agree  Charles Hawtrey: Agreed with Tony. I'd go for 'unit' or 'module' as it could be a single board computer, a module (plugin or not) or even a complete bay(s).
