The context is vine training methods for Cognac production, and my head is spinning with the variations in methods and trying to reconcile the French descriptions with my English references.

It doesn't seem like "light pruning" (the GDT's suggestion and what would make sense as the converse to Gayle Williamson's previous "close pruning" definition for "taille courte") is precise enough here.

Could it be referring to canes left long and not attached to the trellis? Source context as follows:

Deux modes de taille se développent actuellement :
- l’arcure haute, taille longue non palissée qui allie les avantages de la taille longue (fertilité, longévité) et l’économie du relevage,
- l’alternance, une année sur deux, d’une taille longue attachée à plat avec une taille en coursons. Chaque année le pré taillage peut ainsi être appliqué sur la partie de l’exploitation taillée en coursons.
