French term or phrase: PVC off trade
Hello,

What does PVC off trade / on trade mean? Is it referring to wholesale/retail? Still not sure about PVC though!!

"Homme et femme entre 25 et 65 ans, consommant régulièrement ou occasionnellement (1 à 2 fois par mois) du vin rouge haut de gamme (PVC off trade >12€ ou on trade > 35€)."

RRP for off-licence sale

Explanation:

PVC = prix de vente conseillé

Off- and on- looks like British licensing to me - an on-licence allows consumption on the premises (in a pub or cafe) and an off-licence allows sale of alcohol for consumption elsewhere. Might not just be British.

agree  Martin Cassell: or "for off sales" (see ref.) // as JdM's answer suggests, PVC may simply be "retail price" rather than RRP

agree  xxxBourth: Makes sense. The 3:1 price ratio reflects the difference in price for the same wine purchased in a supermarket/cave or in a restaurant.

neutral  Veronique Haour: good point -- there is a big difference between "conseillé" et "au consommateur". Both can be right depending on the context, and the difference can give ground to major litigation issues. http://www.autoritedelaconcurrence.fr/doc/cass05d70_videocas...

agree  writeaway: so it's all déjà-vu. Except with the xxx colleagues, where it's never to be 'vu' again......your proz ref has colleagues with an xxx in front of their names. means they won't be seen again (here)
