French term or phrase: contenance 5a8ca

Hallo,

das ist eine Angabe aus einem Grundbuchauszug. Nun weiß ich, dass "ca" für "centiare" steht, also "m²". Aber wie ist dieses "a" zu verstehen? Die Angabe bezieht sich auf eine bestimmte Landparzelle, weshalb ich "bis" (also 5 - 8 m²) für unwahrscheinlich halte. Aber 5 auf 8 Quadratmeter wäre mathematisch nicht korrekt. Es müsste dann ja 5 auf 8 Meter heißen (nicht Quadratmeter).

Kann mir jemand helfen? Ich bin ratlos....
