Ce film conforte aussi le spectateur français d'être à la bonne place : en effet c'est un film de proximité, de proximité géographique (l'Allemagne notre voisin) et de proximité historique (l'histoire commence en 1984 et se termine en octobre 1989). C'est une proximité familière MAIS ce n'est pas nous, c'est très justement la vie des autres. L'altérité de la proximité me semble être un des ressorts du film pour les spectateurs français comme elle est au coeur d'ailleurs des relations franco-allemandes.
