Premesso che non so nulla del contesto, ma se non esiste nessun parapetto e garde-fous è solo una parola buttata lì per reiterare il termine "fous" potresti tradurre con un ironico:
"tutto un mondo di giullari, giullari del re e amenità varie..."(o più arditamente "...e giullarità varie...")
Non mi viene in mente nient'altro!
