Gaelic to English translations [Non-PRO]
Gaelic term or phrase: ceol
The phrase "ceol & craic" is on a bucket hat I bought in Ireland. While I've never seen it written before I've heard the term craic used before with respect to socializing, chatting, good times. I'm assume this is what that the "craic" part of the phrase is. Just not sure about the word ceol. Was hoping for some help. Thanks.,

Music and diversion is what it's all about in Ireland. That's the typical pub scene, which is incomplte without either.

Ceol is music

Craic is - like the Spanish 'marcha' - not adequately translated by English 'fun', but close enough. Maybe 'diversion among people'.

'Craic' is all about the fun generated by 'banter' between people, taking the mickey out of each other, teasing each other etc, all in a harmless but humorous way.

There' was no craic last night, he's no craic at all, did you have the bit of craic...

I'm Irish (and miss the craic!).

Thanks! I spent only 2 weeks in Ireland but miss it. I will definately be going back some day for some ceol & craic.
