German term or phrase: Bestände relevanter Positionen
Die Unterscheidung in lang- und kurzfristige Bestände relevanter Positionen wird in den jeweiligen Anhangsabschnitten dargestellt.

portfolios of relavant positions
Explanation:
More context would help. What kind of company is this and what is the income account under discussion?

Bestände are quite often porfolios, be they of securities positions, loan receivables or what not. If the text is discussion securities, then positions is correct.

OK - with the new context

I wouldn't even use Bestände (balances) in the translation

The differentiation of the relevant short- and long-term accounts (Positionen) is presented/explained in the respective sections in the Notes to the financial statements.

Bestände here are the balances, Positionen are the accounts

agree  Steffen Walter: A guessing game, really - Bestände could also be inventories.

agree  RobinB: Except that this is surely the "current/non-current" distinction.

-> old habits die hard Robin - I have to force myself to use current/non-current instead of the short/long-term phrasing I learned so long ago.
