German term or phrase: offen abgesetzt
Erhaltene Anzahlungen auf Bestellungen werden entsprechend des Wahlrechtes des § 268 Abs. 5 S. 2 HGB von dem Bilanzposten Vorräte in Höhe des Betrages der Vorräte offen abgesetzt.

My draft:

In accordance with the elective right of § 268 Par. 5 Page 2 of the HGB, the company deducted payments received on account of orders from the balance sheet inventory headings, in the amount of the inventories.

Does this make any sense, or have I left something out that's important? Thanks!

deducted on the face of the balance sheet item
Explanation:
In accordance with the option under section ...., payments received on account of orders are deducted from inventories on the face of the balance sheet (XBRL wording)

or as a separate line item directly below inventories

or directly below the inventories balance sheet item

E.g . the balance sheet looks like this

Inventories XXXX
less payment received YYYYY

I'd also use the present tense when discussing accounting policies are they are ongoing and, for the most part, will continue into the future. They are the current policies in place.

oops, remove "item" from the end there.

Hi Susan, I found it in 4.0 Konzern but that just happened to be the last one I searched so I defaulted to that when I started typing the URL. You do know you can search the XBRL by typing in a term, right? Start typing and autofill shows you terms that exist in the database. If autofill doesn't show you anything, it's not in that particular database. In that event, try another one.

Logically, I would work with the most recent XBRL and then work my way backward when trying to find a term.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks, Ted. I'm trying to use the ABRA XBRL site, diligently following your and Robin's ATA presentations of last fall, but I didn't find this. Not knowing which taxonomy to choose, I went with HGB 4.1 GAAP-Modul Einzelabschluss. Any advice?

agree  RobinB: Susan: Ted's got this 100% right, including using the passive present to describe accounting policies (I'll be presenting on this topic at this year's ATA Conference). Please note that "§ 268 Abs. 5 S. 2" means "section 268(5) sentence 2".
