:-) Two questions in a day IS a lot for me. And I will probably have more before this project is done. :-)

I think I'm in a "can't see the trees for the forest" mode after working on this project for almost 3 weeks now (and another 2 weeks to go).

Similar to the workflow at a bank for the annual statements. While the whole bank is closed on Dec. 31st some people try to find errors, omissions and incorrect accounting entries in the "old year" before correcting them in the new one. In that case the results of the "Rechnungsnachlauf" can already be included in the final annual statements.

employers in Germany. Although the target was to reduce bureaucracy it indeed was enhanced. In former times (up to 2010 or 2009) the employer transferred the corresponding amounts paid to the employees after the month has been completed. This meant the remuneration was paid on the second last business day of the month to the employee. And at that time the information of the amounts paid were transfered to the social security.
Then things have changed. In order to include all payments (and get money for the social insurance earlier) the government decided that the employer has two made two settlements each month: One about in the middle of the month *INCLUDING* the estimations of over hours and night shifts. And then a final one corresponding to the actually paid amounts. Employers are not sure about the target in doing so. Recently the whole system (called - ELENA - Elektronischer Entgeltnachweis) was changed due to the fact that it was like a bureaucratic monster. So i couldn´t tell you what facts are valid at the moment.
The conclusion is: One estimation in the middle of the month and the final settlement at the end of each month. Hope this helps.
